When summer’s glow fades and winter’s dryness creeps in, our skin needs a whole new routine, one that pampers, plumps and keeps those finer lines away.
The transition from sandals to socks requires just as much prep as the transition into summer needs, but with just a few tweaks and some TLC, we can keep our skin feeling soft, supple, and oh-so-radiant even when a cold front starts howling in!
February is a good time to start incorporating some of your winter skincare
And if all else fails, you can always pop into our Nelspruit beauty salon, and get some hands on expert advice for how best to take care of your skin.
How to prepare your skin for a dry Nelspruit winter
- Ditch the Stripping Scrubs
Remember those long, hot showers we revelled in during winter? Well, now it is time to turn down the temperature (both literally and figuratively). Hot water and harsh scrubs strip away precious natural oils, leaving your skin vulnerable to the winter’s wrath. Instead of the boiling water, opt for lukewarm showers and a gentle exfoliation with chemical exfoliates like lactic acid. They’ll buff away dead skin without the irritation.
- Hydration Mind Set
When in the midst of winter, think of your skin as a parched desert begging for an oasis. Ditch the lightweight summer lotion and swap it for a richer, creamier moisturiser. Hyaluronic acid is your bestie here, and it works by attracting and holding onto moisture. Layer a facial oil on top for extra oomph, especially at night. And don’t forget your lips! A hydrating lip balm with SPF is your winter new BFF.
- Use Humectants
While moisturisers lock in moisture, humectants like glycerine and Aloe Vera draw it from the air. Think of them as moisture magnets! Look for serums or lightweight lotions with these ingredients to give your skin an extra hydration boost, especially before applying your moisturiser.
- Sunscreen? In Winter?
Sun damage happens year-round, even on cloudy days. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 moisturiser every single morning, rain or shine. It’ll protect your skin from aging and hyperpigmentation, keeping your winter glow intact.
- Internal Glow-Up
Remember, beauty starts from within! Up your water intake to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out and also load up on antioxidant-rich fruits and veggies. Don’t forget those omega-3s from fatty fish, they’ll keep your skin plump and nourished.
Bonus Tip: Invest in a humidifier! This nifty gadget adds moisture to the air, creating a mini spa-like environment for your skin, especially while you sleep.
Remember, consistency is key. So grab your favourite products, put on some relaxing music, and make prepping your skin for winter a pampering ritual. You deserve it!
